Oakside Cottage is situated in the small village of Braithwaite, only two miles from the popular market town of Keswick. The area is famous for its endless list of outdoor activites and attractions. Below we have listed just some of the things our guests like to do during their stay at Oakside Cottage.
Altura Trail
The Altura Trail puts the mountain back into biking and has been built for experienced riders with good off road skills and a higher level of fitness and stamina.
Castlerigg Stone Circle
One mile east of Keswick in the English Lake District, this is a hilltop stone circle thought to be four thousand years old.
Cumberland Pencil Museum
The history of pencil making in Cumbria and the home of the first pencil! Enter the museum through a replica of the Seathwaite mine where graphite was first discovered 350 years ago.
Derwentwater Marina
The Marina, which is situated in Portinscale, is ideally located for water based activities or for simply relaxing and looking out towards the beautiful scenery of Borrowdale Valley.
Fell Walking
Skiddaw (931m); Helvellyn (949m), Scafell (964m), Scafell Pike (977m); Great Gable (899m) and dozens of other fells are all within easy reach for a great day's walk or climb.
Gentle Walking
Gentle days out can be enjoyed by walking to the top of Latrigg (367m); Catbells (445m) or by taking in the views from Friars Crag and Castlehead.
Go Ape - Whinlatter
Swing through the trees, climb cargo nets, and tackle obstacles high up in the trees, with a forest adventure at Whinlatter Forest.
Honister Slate Mine
A fully guided tour into the mine itself is available several times a day detailing the history and spectacular features of the mine.

Osprey Watch - Bassenthwaite Lake
In 2001 a pair of ospreys, which nested beside Basssenthwaite Lake, became the first wild osprey to breed in the Lake District for over 150 years. The birds return every summer to the area.
Theatre by the Lake
One of the most beautifully located theatres in England, just a few hundred yards from Derwentwater. With a year-round professional programme, it provides a variety of entertainment.
